AIMI South Africa
Ambassadors has been working in South Africa since its inception, with ministry currently underway in:
Kimberley, Northern Cape
Kimberley is the capital city of the Northern Cape Province, historically a famous diamond mining town home to about 220,000 people. The Northern Cape Province has some dubious distinctions, being the South African province with the highest incidence of teen suicide, rape, syphilis, and abortion, and is the drinking capital of the provinces. It has the highest incidence of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome in the world. There is a large population of coloured people in Kimberley (mixed races), as well as blacks, Indians, and whites. There are two mosques and a Hindu temple on the north side of Kimberley, as well as several Dutch Reformed churches and many others. Kimberley is a pleasant city with fewer traffic problems and crime incidence than the larger cities.

Welkom, Free State
Welkom is South Africa’s youngest town, springing up after gold was discovered on a farm in 1947. With an official population of 251,500, Welkom is surrounded by many different townships and informal settlements which makes it difficult to get an accurate population. The Pines is situated just outside of town on previously owned gold mine land, donated by Harmony Gold Mine in 2005. It has been said that Welkom has an unusually high HIV/AIDS infection rate due to the gold mines, which in the past hired men and housed them in hostels while providing them with prostitutes instead of allowing their families to live with them.
